Rix is by far a momma's boy (hooray!!) and would rather stay home with me and do what I'm doing most of the time. However, we have found that we have a super future Scout on our hands! For the past three years, Bryan has been asked to be the Scoutmaster at the 11-year-old day camp. It's an all day camp and he's the head honcho. Bryan took Rix to an overnight camp with the Scouts a couple years ago and so Rix knows that anything to do with Scouts is fun! So when Bryan offered to take Rix to the 11-year-old day camp Rix jumped at the chance!
I think it's a great opportunity for Bryan and Rix to have some alone time. They tend to butt heads a bit, but without his brothers around competing for attention, Rix and Bryan get along much better and have a chance to grow closer. And every year my dad teaches the knot head class, oh, I mean the knots class. Rix hung out there quite a bit, begging my dad to teach him more knots. Those poor Scouts in the knots class had to deal with Rix interrupting them all day!
Rix came home with a candy necklace that he earned for "being such a good helper" (I'm sure he was super helpful...) and some patches for his future Scout shirt (I'm sure they will be lost before he becomes a real Scout) but the important thing is that Rix was surrounded by awesome young men and already loves the Scout program. He is even talking about how excited he is to earn his Eagle!
And to prove that going with Bryan has improved their relationship, this past Saturday Bryan asked if anyone wanted to go to Lowes with him. And Rix wanted to go! Before this, Rix always said no and would stay home with me. Maybe he isn't as much as a momma's boy as I thought he was.

A Day with Daddy
A stick to a 5-year-old is the best toy ever!
At the knots class.
Waiting his turn to learn knots.
Rix said this was his favorite part of the day!

So cute! I love how excited he is about scouts and he isn't even old enough. Let's hope that it stays that way for a few more years!
You know, at my work we learn that one-on-one time with a parent strengths the relationship with that parent, it's suggested you do a one-on-one activity with each of your kids once a week. The results are amazing.
They are growing up so fast! He's thinking about his eagle! So cute!Wow, it'll be here before you know it.
That is so nice that Bryan can take Rix with him. What a great excuse for them to spend time together! By the way, Jordyn called me over to Kade to see the "Rix face" he was making. See you in a few weeks!
How adorable. I'm so glad he's excited for time with daddy and scouting. That's awesome!
