Spring Break 2009

Now that Rix is in school (preschool at Park Lodge) Spring Break actually means something for us. I didn't think I'd enjoy it so much! It was so nice to not wait for a bus and it was awesome having Rix home so we could do more things. I wanted to make Spring Break fun for the kids, so we tried to do something fun every day. It was a little disappointing because Bryan had to work a lot, but Nana helped out a ton (what a trooper!) and we had a blast with her. Thanks Nana! The weather also didn't really cooperate and the days were pretty cold with rain. It did get warmer towards the end of the week though. Hooray! Here are some things we did:

*Nana and I and the boys went to see Monsters vs. Aliens. We dropped Cole off a babysitters (thanks Jen!) and took Bryce and Rix. Rix loved the movie and loved going to the theaters to watch it. Bryce loved it too, but his attention span is, well, zero, so he wanted to keep switching seats, walk up and down the steps, and eat lots of popcorn and Skittles. It was a really cute show, but we didn't see it in 3-D because the tickets are more expensive and I didn't think Bryce would handle cartoon monsters coming at him very well.

* Rix started T-ball practice. It was so fun! He loved being there and playing with other kids. Thankfully, the T-ball practice is at an elementary school, so we were able to let Cole and Bryce play while Rix "practiced".

* We had a Primary activity on Tuesday. It was really fun to have them participate in the relay races and make cards for their parents (ahem...me) and decorate sugar cookies. They loved it, and the cookies were delicious.

* We went to the Children's Museum in Olympia (so much better than the one in Tacoma!). It was Free Friday, so it was super crowded, but the kids had such a good time that we literally forced them to leave.
Bryce playing at the musuem in the doctor area. They had real X-rays for the kids to look at and there was a film crew there making a documentary, and they filmed Rix and Bryce playing in the doctor area for over ten minutes. They are naturals :)

I took this picture for Adam. They had a whole dentist area with jars full of real teeth (ew, I know) and X-rays and stuff. It was really cool!

Rix and Bryce spent a lot of time here. It's like pins that you can push to make shapes, and it's dual-sided. It was fun, except some crazy kids (where were their parents!) kept slamming themselves into the board, even though signs everywhere said "Press gently" - even some adults were doing it! It made me so mad!

Cole spend forever at the water table, and my apologies to the children around him. He splashed and splashed - see how wet he is? He was having so much fun!

*Sunday was General Conference and we went to my parents to watch it (we don't get the BYU Channel at our house). In between sessions, we went to the park to take advantage of the beautiful weather and to get some wiggles out. After the afternoon session (and some naps - Cole and Bryce, not me!) we went in the backyard at my parent's house to play.

Cole loves to be outside - and loves to say "cheese" for the camera.

Bryan was throwing the ball to Rix, but he and Bryce thought it was more fun to find the ball in the bushes than to actually catch it, so Bryan kept throwing it in the bushes.

Bryan pushing the boys on the merri-go-round. It makes me so sick!

Playing with Daddy.

Wow your spring break was a lot more fun than mine last week. We didn't do anything! I'm taking Olivia to see Monsters vs Aliens on Saturday so I hope she likes it. The museum looks like a lot of fun. I'm jealous you got to see conference on a tv. The internet is impossible to listen to! I'm glad you have nice weather finally!

I ought to take advantage of spring break next time. How fun! We did the movie in 3-D and it wasn't so much that monsters were right in your face but the glasses were so big they wouldn't fit on the boys and they got frustrated holding them up to their face. I love children's museums, when we visit next we'll have to go there. I'm glad you guys are enjoying nice weather, maybe send some a little more east?

You are such a fun mom! I agree--Spring Break never meant anything before. But, now...I'm very excited! We don't have to be somewhere and can have a nice break. I love that you made it so fun for your kids. And, I wish our children's museum had a free day...if it did, I think every child in Utah would be there. And that's more than every child in Washington, I would guess!
