Snakes - in the same room as me!

On Wednesday night we went to Rix's school to see...snakes. And lizards. And a shy turtle. And we PAID to see these things (I don't have a lot of love for snakes...okay, I have NO love for snakes.). It started out with this guy who calls himself the Reptile Man (sort of like the Forehead, right Kelli??) and he showed all the kids the snakes and lizards he had, and then the kids got to go and hold them, touch them, and take pictures with them. It was really chaotic - the guy basically had all the kids come up at the same time, so there was a swarm of young kids mixed with slithery snakes and big old lizards - not a good combo to me - so we waited for the hype to die down and most of the kids left, and then we got to get up close and personal with these things! I thought my kids would be really hesitant about touching the snakes, but all three of them were awesome (they take after their father when it comes to reptile love?) and didn't have any problems touching and holding anything they could. It was so worth it! Even if I don't love snakes, I did like seeing my kids excited about doing something they had never done before!
This poor turtle. It hid its head in its shell and I could just imagine it saying "I'm going to my happy place" over and over again.
Yes, this is a real snake. Yes, it was super long and heavy. And yes, it did bring tears to my eyes.
I'm putting on my brave face and touching a little snake. I actually got a little weepy afterwards, but felt pretty good! My mom would be so proud of me!
Okay, I lost my brave face. The ladies around me were pretty supportive and kept telling me it was going to be okay (did I appear to be on the verge of a nervous breakdown? Maybe...)

I felt like I was going to hyperventilate when I tried to hold the big yellow snake. Seriously, it was weird and heavy and gross. I'm pretty sure that turtle was saying exactly what you thought he was saying too!

You crack me up! I bet the turtle was going to his happy place! :) And, that snake was stinkin' huge! I can't imagine that feels good to him. You could see the indentations where Rix was holding him up!

I'm not sure who to feel more sympathy for...the turtle or you. I would not have been as brave as you, you brave thing you touched a huge freaking snake that could have eaten you in one bite! But you have a point. It's fun to see the kids try new things, right?

You are my child. I hate snakes. I have bad dreams about them. You were very brave. And Carissa.
