My Newest Craze...

Coupon Shopping! So I know that those of you who read Dani's blog know that this is NOTHING compared to her savings, but in my defense (and it's a good one!) I just started this whole coupon shopping thing, and I think I did a pretty good job! I don't know all the rules and little tricks yet, but don't worry, I will :) Anyway, I went to Albertson's Monday night and left feeling like a bandit. They had this deal going on that if you spent $30 in participating items then you got a $15 coupon to use on your next visit, but none of the items were items we use, so I didn't use that. Anyway, here is what I got.

-2 dozen large eggs (normally $4.58) I paid $1.98 with Alb. coupons
-Two boxes Quaker Instant Oatmeal (normally $9.18) I paid NOTHING! They were on sale for $2 a piece, and I used a manufacturer's coupon for $1 off each, but since Albertson's was doing double coupons, I got $2 off each box, making them FREE!
-Albertsons Wheat Puff Cereal (normally $2.89) I paid $1.50 on sale
-Margarine (normally $1.19) I paid $1.00 on sale
-Pace Black Bean and Corn Salsa (normally $3.99) I paid $0.99. It was on sale for $3, but with mfr. coupon for $1 off and double coupons, I got $2 off!
-Froot Loops (normally $3.99) I paid $1.67 clearance price
-McCormick Potato Steamers (normally $2.89) on clearance for $1.29
-McCormick Veggie Steamers (normally $2.89) on clearance for $1.29 (I actually got this one free because it rang up wrong on the register, and Albertsons has a price guarantee, so they gave it to me free!)
-Pork on sale for $2.80 (was $3.99)
-3.5 pounds of oranges (was $3.59 at $.99/pound) but with the Saar's Marketplace coupon I got it for $1.37 (or $.38/pound)
-15 pounds of red potatoes (were $15 at Albertsons) I paid $3!!! with the Saar's coupon (saving TWELVE dollars!!!)

So now we have potatoes to make Mountain Man breakfast, potato fries, potatoes with chili, etc. I also got the McCormick Spice to help me change it up. The boys have oranges for snacks (and I have home-canned applesauce and peaches) and they have cereal they will actually eat or breakfast. Cole has oatmeal (he's teething and will only eat soft foods) and I have eggs for cooking, margarine for cookies, and oatmeal for me. I spent $15.61, and without coupons or sales, I would have spent $54.19! That's a savings of $38.58! Not bad for my first intentional coupon shopping trip. Also this week Kmart is doing double coupons, so I'm going there for cleaning and beauty supplies. I will keep you posted!

I forgot to mention Albertsons takes competitors coupons. That is how I used the produce coupons.

Wow. I have a ton of coupons but I have never really gone shopping based on what's on sale vs. coupons and all. I don't have the organization to do all that in my head (yeah yeah, bring on the jokes) but I totally want to try this out now too! Way to go with your thriftiness!

How do you find double coupon sales!? haha. That is awesome. I guess we need to plan our shopping a little better.

I wish you were here to help me coupon shop. It bores me and I'm not motivated at all. I just want someone to tell me how to use my coupons and hold my hand.

I AM SO IMPRESSED! I think that I would love to grocery shopping if I could come away with steals like that. Please keep us posted and teach us all of your tricks. How often is double coupon day?

Coupons are the best!! I discovered them a few months ago, and it is a little time consuming, but it makes me so happy when I see that little part on the bottom of the receipt that shows how much I saved!! Good job!!

One week out of the month I make my meals based on what's on sale and what I have coupons for. I don't think I've ever had the savings you've had, though. My grocery store here does double coupons as a general rule so I always look for deals that way. You ought to check out pinchingyourpennies.com, especially those in Utah, it has message boards where people talk about coupons they used on sale items and such. Oh, and coupon websites like boodle.com usually relate to Albertsons sales, at least that's what I saw before. Good luck!
