When Daddy's Away...

We play!

For two weeks in August I was a single mom. Go ahead, you can feel sorry for me. I deserve your pity! My dad's company in the general contractor for the Seattle Temple remodel, and it's in Bellevue. And they only have three weeks to accomplish a job that should take twice that long. So instead of working fifteen hour days and the driving the hour or so home, all the workers stay in a hotel right by the temple. And while it all makes sense, it means that for two weeks (except Sunday) I am without Bryan.

I did this last year, even though last year Bryan was only gone for a week. This year it was two. And the next three Augusts will be the same for me (my dad has a 5-year contract). So this year I decided to make the best of it. I planned lots of fun things for the kids and me to do together. We went to the library, got Frosties, headed to several parks, had a "tent" night (where they slept in a play tent in their room), and went up to the hotel to see Bryan.
Carissa and I took the kids to the park for a picnic and to play.
Yeah. I'm cool.
Cole was insistent that he catch Madelynn at the bottom of the slide. It was super cute.
This was like a zipline. The kids were on it forever!
Nothing's better than the end of a hot day at the park than a FROSTY!
Tent night!
Needless to say, there was no sleeping going on. It got to wild that Rix even came out and said he wanted to take the tent down because it was too crazy. That says a lot!
Who knew key cards were so fun? And note Rix's missionary tag. Nice touch, eh?
Before dinner we headed to the Lego store so the boys could each make their own Lego guy.
It's a race! I hope I win...
At Red Robin
I have no idea why we are showcasing our fries. I'm sure it was Rix's idea...
Now I show you these pictures so you don't make the same mistake. Sweet Factory is "you-can-pay-in-cash-or-with-your-first-born" expensive. You can buy it all cheaper basically anywhere else you could possibly buy candy!!! But, it was still good.
At the spray park in Tacoma.
Rix in the spinning chair. It made me sick just watching him.
My friend Tessa came with Carissa and I. On the left is her son Macade. Then some random girl, Bryce, Jack, Olivia (totally posing), and Madelynn's head.
Rix, Olivia, and Braxton, who basically ran from one end to the other the whole time. He was so funny!
This is the result of Cole climbing on this rock and screaming "Mom take a picture of me!"
On our way up to visit Bryan on Friday I get a call that says "Meet me at the hospital." Really? Bryan decided a great way to get out of work an hour early was to slide a planer across his finger *gag* It was gross, but Cole was very concerned and wanted to totally see it and sit by it. Maybe a future doctor?
Our friend Darryn had the other two boys in the waiting room. He bought them sodas and treats and got coloring pages for them. It was so awesome! Thanks Darryn! Here is Bryce lounging on all the bean bags.
Rix coloring. It was the cutest waiting room ever!
That night, after the ER and dinner, we went swimming at the hotel. Notice Bryan's finger? He can't bend it or get it wet, so it was like this the whole time. hahaha...

Now Bryan's home and we are sort of back to normal. He has still been working this week at the temple, and he still works long hours, but not long enough to warrant another hotel stay. Hooray! The hardest part of Bryan being gone was around 5pm, when he usually is home. The boys and I had simple dinner, usually whatever they wanted, which ended up being crepes (twice) and burgers. Then they'd go to bed, and I'd watch TV alone. Or read. I watched shows Bryan wouldn't like to watch. Like Prison Wives, Lifetime movies, and Trauma: Life in the ER. And I was up so late, because I can't sleep when Bryan isn't here. Even with a house alarm. But we're glad he is back (mostly) safe and sound! And we're headed to the circus tomorrow so we can all spend quality time together!

Wow, what a fun few weeks! I didn't know Seattle had a Legoland. Just don't tell my boys, okay? We had simple dinners too. Cereal, hot dogs, pancakes :) Glad to hear he's back (well, except for part of his finger...)

You're showcasing the fries because they are the BEST! I crave those fries with the yummy honey mustard sauce. I'm glad you got to see Bry a couple of times. I could never go two weeks without Adam here. My kids would not like me very much after those two weeks :) And yay! for updating your blog FINALLY!!! I'm kind of sad there is no more spray park with the weather coming up. Next year!

Man you packed in a lot! What a fun mom! The tent night looked great and crepes twice (yum). Glad the hubby is back so you can start catching up on all the lost sleep!

Celeste, I'm a little worried about what Tacoma is doing to you. I've seen, over the course of several blogs, very well-done ghetto faces. And, I'm not sure that's how a Mormon Mom like yourself should behave. Word?

By the way, great job keeping entertained while Bryan was away! That's a long time!

You are a trooper. You are a good mom. I think that I would go into depression or something. I hope Bry's finger gets better soon. I love the picture with him swimming. At leawst it looked like he was number 1, and not flipping everyone off.
