Holy Hannah Batman - I have a 5 year old. Crazy! This year Rix was way too excited for his birthday. Maybe it's because he understood the idea better this year, or maybe because there are lots of birthdays right before his that gets him all excited. But whatever it is, I wanted to make it really special for him this year. You can see what we did in the pictures below. He had an awesome day, but it's been a bit of a transition for him. He thinks now everyday needs to be his birthday, and he keeps asking everyone "Do I look 5 to you?" And to make it more confusing, we are having cake and ice cream on Sunday with the family (a tradition) and then next Thursday we are taking him and Olivia to Chuck E Cheese for their birthdays. The problem is that both of them know about birthday parties, but we aren't necessarily throwing them a party this year. Rix doesn't have a lot of friends his age and I don't know how to get ahold of his preschool friends. So we are calling Chuck E Cheese his "party" and hoping he doesn't get that none of his preschool friends aren't there! Rix is such a great kid. He is way too smart for his (and my) own good. He loves to spell and count and he can read all by himself. He loves to read his bedtime stories out loud to me, which is fun, but time consuming :) He loves being a big brother and whenever one of his brothers is crying or upset he will find a toy for them or sing a song. He has his moments where he throws fits and gets mad, but he's still a kid! And I love how helpful he is around the house and with his brothers. I love you Rix!
Rix and Bryce at Red Robin. Due to schedule conflicts *coughSCOUTScough* we went out on Monday night instead of Tuesday night. Everyone was able to come and Rix was so excited. He hearts Red Robin!
We also celebrated Lindsay's birthday and, thanks for Bryan and his big mouth, the Red Robin staff also sang to her!
Everyone singing Happy Birthday!
Bryan and Rix trying to figure out Bumblebee! It actually came with instructions!
Tuesday morning we had breakfast at the office. Bryan made a rare appearance and was there to sing to Rix with us. We had donuts - and Rix's had a candle in it.
Carissa and Olivia came with us to see "Up". Thanks Adam for watching Cole! The movie was really cute and the boys loved it, especially since we snuck in Swedish Fish! Olivia thought it was good, but sad in some parts. She is definitely a girl! Afterwards we went to McDonald's for lunch for the coveted chicken nuggets.
Rix opened some of his presents. He is wearing his Ben 10 shirt we got him and also got some "big boy" legos from Grandma and Grandpa Pearson! Thanks!
We also got him a Transformer shirt. This will dramatically reduce the mornings where Rix is upset that he doesn't have a "hero" shirt to wear. We are stocking up!
It's not really his party, but Cole is crying because he wants to. We got Rix gold clubs and Cole is beyond upset that he can't play with them. Mostly because they turn into a weapon with Cole.
Rix likes alone time, so I took him by himself to Cold Stone for ice cream. He never deviates. It's always vanilla ice cream with gummy bears (ew). I couldn't even share with him!
I would write about a perfect day for Rix, but what we did sums it up. Maybe a trip to the park would round it out, but we ran out of time. Instead, I'm going to write Rix's 5 favorite things and 5 things he hates:
5 Things he Loves:
1. Vanilla - he loves vanilla ice cream, cake, frosting, tootsie rolls, and Nilla wafers. If he gets swirl ice cream with chocolate touching the vanilla, he gets upset.
2. Heroes - Spiderman, Ben 10, Transformers, Iron Man, Batman, etc etc. He loves the toys, the clothes, the shows, and any other item with heroes on them.
3. Running fast - he loves to be outdoors where he can run. This is why soccer appeals to him.
4. Pizza - I get a very happy Rix if I say we are having pizza for dinner. Take-out or homemade, he doesn't care. And he likes it even better if Sprite is involved.
5. Climbing - he climbs on everything! Polls, fences, couchs, trees - he's part monkey.
5 things he Hates:
1. Going to sleep - especially if I tell him to take a nap
2. Losing - we had to make a special rule that if we are playing a game and he starts to cry we immediately put the game away.
3. Milk - he is his father's child on this one.
4. Being left - he gets very teary and his chin trembles (it's all very sad) when I have to go to a meeting or go to the store without him.
5. Trying new things - he's super cautious. He doesn't try new food well or try new things often. We're working on that!

Happy birthday Rix! It's super exciting when someone has a birthday around here because there are tons to do. I'm glad he liked Bumblebee so much. I love his list too. That is definitely a "Rix" list.
What a long birthday, I'm all worn out just reading about it :) I can't wait to see Up! And I love Rix's smile in all the pics. Where'd you get the Ben 10 tee? Happy Birthday Rix, your gift is in the mail!!!
Happy Birthday Rix!!! How exiting! He is so handsome. I was just imagining his poor little face that he would make if you left him, sad! I'm glad it was such a good day. That chocolate bar looks yummy!
Happy Birthday, Rix! Can't wait to see you guys in a few weeks!
