Bryce's "bumps"

I don't know if you can see his bumps in this picture very well (behind his ear and on his temple) because the ones on his face aren't very bright, but Bryce does have flesh colored and red bumps all over his body, mostly on his back, hips, behind his ears, and the back of his neck. (*If you click on the picture it enlarges it, and you can see the bumps - they are yellowish) These are the most noticeable, but he does have light colored bumps on his face and head, which are mostly covered by his hair. His condition is called juvenile xanthogranuloma, and although the disease can be really serious, his case isn't. He does have a large amount of bumps (most people only have one big bump) but we saw his dermatologist on Friday and she concluded that his case isn't serious, just cosmetic for now. I have to be on the look out for brownish splotches and white spots, which could be a sign that the disease is serious, but he has none and is doing really well. We also have to watch out for developmental delays, because the disease can be neurologically damaging, but not in all cases, and so far Bryce is right on schedule for everything. The bumps don't seem to bother him. They don't itch and even when they get irritated from clothing or whatever and scab over, he doesn't seem to be in pain or even notice they are there. The disease isn't contagious, and is just something he was born with. I was really scared going to the doctor's because I didn't want to hear anything scary - we love this little social guy! But I feel so blessed that he is okay and that this disease which could be so bad isn't for us.

way to be a brave mom! i'd be worried too, but he's too much fun for anything crazy to happen. but of course for safe measure we'll keep him in our prayers.

I am the most paranoid mom so I'm glad that you are braver than I am. It's good that those bumps aren't as big of a deal as they could be, but I still feel bad for the little dude!

Thanks for the update. I was wondering what the doctor would say. Bryce is lucky to have a mom who's so on top of things!
