Bryan and I and the kids went up to Seattle this last weekend for my Uncle Ryan's 40th Birthday Surprise party. We went with my parents and my Aunt Carrolyn and Uncle Frank. Rix LOVES Uncle Frank, and so do I because he

entertained Rix for me the whole night. So Ryan's wife, Shannon, planned this huge party for him - lots of decorations, food, and entertainment. I guess she wanted to make it super special and memorable because Ryan has never ever had a birthday party, even as a kid (sad, right?). The party's theme was Academy Awards Night and the whole place was decorated with balloons and streamers and movie stuff. Ryan was so surprised that when he walked in and we all yelled surprise he walked right back out. He told us later that he thought he had walked in on somebody else's surprise party and he was so embarrassed that he had ruined it for them that he ran out. He didn't even know it was for him!! It was really cool to see his reaction and he was so excited that everyone had come out for his party.

There was lots of food there, and to Bryan and I it felt like Thanksgiving - you know, where you try to fit a little of everything on your plate! It was really good food, and you all know I love food! The party went late, and Rix and Bryce got tired early on, but they were good sports and sat (mostly) through the step team that performed and the open mike portion where people tried their hardest to embarrass Ryan. Rix discovered urinals in the Men's room at the party, and he had to "go potty"

literally every three minutes. Who knew urinals were so cool? And, of course, Rix decided that the birthday cake was too good to wait for and he swiped the decorative frosting from the side of the cake not once but twice. And both times he chose the black frosting that stained his lips dark purple. Nice. We had a good time though, and I only hope that I can someday surprise Bryan with a fun party that compares to the planning and execution of this one!

That sounds like so fun. I'm glad you got to see everyone and have such a fun time. That is sad he never had a party. It's so nice that he finally got an awesome one. Anyway, I'm jealous that you got to have so much fun. And I'm jealous that you are so skinny! What is your secret? I mean, really, what is it!?
