So Bryan and I don't go on vacation or little trips or overnight getaways very often. So this last weekend was really fun for us because we went to Orcas Island for the weekend with my parents and our kids. It was really fun and a nice retreat from our daily routines. We caught the noon ferry to Orcas Island and scouted out the area for the Abercrombie family reunion this summer. We visited Camp Moran and checked out the cabins and other facilities where we will be staying. We also drove up the twisty (and the word twisty doesn't give the road justice) road to the top of Mount Constitution where we climbed the steps to the top of a lookout and the view was amazing. We could see the whole island and even Canada!

Bryce had the best view of all - from on top Papa's shoulders!
After we made it down from the mountain, we visited several restaurants to find someone to host a salmon bake for the reunion. We had no luck, but we will keep trying to find someone. Salmon is so good, especially when it's fresh like that (and I don't have to cook it). We caught the next ferry and made it back to Anacortes in time to check into our hotel and eat some dinner. Now for those of you who don't know, I LOVE hotels (okay, nice hotels) and sleeping in the big king beds and going swimming and the continental breakfast. It is so great. Anyway, so Rix and Bryce went swimming the next morning and Bryan made sure they went underwater and experienced the whole sport of swimming. Rix lost all trust in Bryan and sat on the stairs, only to be pulled away by Bryan and swept underwater.

Can you see the look of terror and utter fear? Maybe he won't be my swimmer after all. Anyway, later that morning after some needed naps and shopping at Kohl's (notice the word used was NEED) we checked out of the hotel and made our way to the Tulip Festival. It was so amazing. There were fields and fields of tulips. We were there right at the end of the festival so there was only one huge field of tulips left but it was enough to impress me! We attempted family pictures, which I think is very brave of us.

Before we found the tulips we went to the Tulip Festival street fair and walked around and saw the vendors. Bryan got warm roasted cashews (so good) and we had a good time seeing everything that was for sale. On our way home we stopped at the outlet mall in Marysville. It was fun to look around, but to me, a dress that is still $5o isn't outlet mall-worthy. Hello! Everything should be $10 and under. We had a great weekend and the kids were really good, despite lost or short naps and long car rides. We are excited for the family reunion and our next "vacation"!

you're so lucky you got to go! it looks beautiful and i'll bet you had a ton of fun! i can't wait for our reunion now!
Can I be an honorary Abercrombie? Or, maybe we should just come early April next year to see that festival. We're going to the one at Thanksgiving Point on Thursday. And, check you out--hot pregnant momma. Ow ow!!!
If it makes you feel better, we don't go on vacations at all, except the ones we have to pay for. Orcas Island looks so pretty. I can't wait to go there again. I'm just glad the "campground" has electricity! And the Tulip Festival looks like a lot of fun. We'll have to do that sometime.
Just wanted to stop by your blog. I check it every day. And I have to say...I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
