Bryce turns 5!!

Bryce was super excited for his birthday this year. I made these birthday countdown blocks at Super Saturday last year and Bryce was so excited to use them. Seriously, it was a tragedy if we left for school in the morning and he realized he had forgotten to change the countdown. But besides that drama, he was so looking forward to his special day, and how can I not do everything possible to make his day what he hoped it would be?

Bryce had two requests for his birthday: go to Red Robin for dinner and go to McDonalds for dinner. And get a booster seat (because 5-year-olds don't sit in 5-point harness carseats anymore!) This is a kid after my own heart - his celebration was basically about food. Bryan went out of town the week before Bryce's birthday, but we were able to go to Red Robin for both Bryan's and Bryce's birthday (and get two free meals - it's great having close birthdays to your relatives!). The staff came and sang to him and he had a blast! The day before Bryce's birthday also happened to be McTeacher night for Park Lodge, where the teachers and staff of the school help serve and stuff at McDonalds, and the PTA gets a percentage of the proceeds. It was so fun for Bryce to eat there and not only get his Happy Meal, but see his teachers and Nana working there too.

And to make it better, all the cousins were there too!

On Bryce's birthday (it was on a Tuesday) I made a variation of Monster cupcakes (I made these for his birthday last year, but made them smaller this year) for his preschool class. He was also surprised when he got to school to find that Nana had got him a birthday balloon! If I would have known how excited he was going to be over a balloon I would have got him one! He felt really special. He also got to pick a prize out of the "treasure box" at school, and came home with glow in the dark stars for his ceiling.

He really is excited about his cupcakes - he just isn't photogenic :)

We also did our traditional family party on the Sunday after his birthday. We had all the family come over for dinner, where we BBQ'd hot dogs for the kids and shish kabobs for the adults. And to make it even more special - Uncle Brent and Austin were in town for the party too! Bryce has always been a good sport to share his birthday with his dad, and I made two desserts - one was Bryan-friendly and one was Bryce-friendly. They turned out really yummy, and the birthday boys loved them. Bryce opened lots of presents and ate way too much sugar, but birthdays are only once a year, right?

I love this picture of Bryan and Bryce!

Bryce took a few weeks to realize that his birthday was over. I think it's because we celebrated his birthday over a span of a week and a half! He didn't understand that his birthday was over, and even a couple of weeks after he was still letting me know things he wanted for his birthday, and I'd have to remind him that his birthday was over, much to his disappointment! But now he'll have things to look forward to next year!

5 Things Bryce loves:
*Going to school
*Playing the Wii (especially Lego Star Wars)
*Happy Meals
*Snuggling
*Climbing on things and jumping off (I personally don't love this)

5 Things Bryce hates:
*Taking naps
*Getting in trouble
*Sleeping by himself
*Being left out of things
*Not playing the Wii

I loved your shish kabob idea for his party. That should also become a tradition. I love your Bryce. He's such a sweet boy!
