Rix Turns 4!!

I can't believe my baby is four! Sometimes I can't believe that he has been in my life for four whole years. It is so crazy. I totally remember his birth like it was yesterday (I won't go into details!) but it was amazing. I'll always remember how hungry I was because the last thing I ate was Karen's birthday cake and I didn't realize that a) I would be going into labor that night and b) they don't let you eat while you are in labor and c) ice chips are not filling. But the whole thing was great and Rix is an awesome four year old. I love looking back at pictures and remembering how mischevous he was or the funny things he said. He is also so fun now - he always makes us laugh and he is so helpful (amazingly helpful - when he isn't around I don't know what to do!) He is tall but skinny - he is almost out of toddler sizes because 5T pants are too short. We have to buy little boy pants in XS and hike them up with a belt. He is so smart and is always asking why and how and where for everything. I would pay good money to look into his mind and see how he perceives things. I love his light blond hair and blue eyes and his analytical approach to everything while still being goofy and crazy. Here are a few things about Rix for your enjoyment:

LOVES:

McDonald's Happy Meals with Chicken Nuggets
Super Heroes
Staying up with Mommy instead of napping
Helping Daddy work outside
Sounding out words and spelling them
The color blue
Getting treats
Vanilla Ice Cream
Honey on anything
Playing at the park
Sending letters and pictures to people
Helping Mommy bake or cook
Building symmetrical buildings with legoes
Making Cole laugh

HATES:

Taking Naps
When Mommy leaves for a meeting or a break to Target (I need my breaks!)
Eating Breakfast
Milk
Being told what to do
Peas and Onions
The Dark
When Bryce knocks down his tower

For his birthday we went to my Aunt Jodi's for cake and ice cream on Sunday. He got to play with his cousin Issac who turns 6 today. He ate two bites of cake because he was so excited to open his presents. On Monday (his actual birthday) we went to lunch at McDonald's with Daddy and then after dinner we played at the park before going to ice cream at Cold Stone with Dave and Linz and Nana. He also didn't have to take a nap and I let him watch Pokemon, which never happens, but it was his birthday and he loves it.

Rix is very into pirates and chose this cake for me to make (or try to make). It was really fun to decorate!

Blowing out his candles.

I was sitting by Cole and eating the yummy Key Lime Cake my aunt made for my uncle (whose birthday is tomorrow) and Cole started hyperventilating. I turned to my dad, who had just had Cole, and asked him how Cole knew what I was eating. Cole watches us eat a lot, and rarely hyperventilates unless he knows what we are eating is delicious. My dad is in huge trouble! No wonder Cole has rolls on his thighs!

Happy birthday Rix! I can't believe the first batch of grandkids are getting so old! I love the list of likes and dislikes- it helps me pretend I know him a little more than I do. He doesn't like milk?! Holy cow, my kids drink a gallon every two days! But he gets an A+ for his happy meal choice. And awesome cake! That pirate cake looks much more fun to make than the princess cake Olivia wants. So.... HAPPY BIRTHDAY RIX!!!

First, I have to mention how happy I am that you've rededicated yourself to blogging over the past months. It's always such a treat to hear what's happening in Washington!

I am mega-impressed with your birthday cake. You need to teach me your secrets. Where do you find the designs??

And, when you said Cole was hyperventilating, I assumed he was choking on the cake. Glad I was wrong!

Can't wait to see you guys so soon!!

Amazing cake, good work on that. Happy Birthday Rix. I can't wait until you guys live close so we can combine our birthday parties. I love the pirate pictures, I am glad you had a good 4th. We missed you guys at the ranch. Next year you can only come to the ranch if you have crying kids, just so you can fit in. miss you guys.

How sad that I have to read your blog to learn more about Rix, he is so cute! I love his list, Roman hates milk too, maybe they can be best friends. And way to go on the cake, I didn't do anything like that, look at you supermom!
