Transitions

So my kids are growing up way too fast despite everything I am doing to try and make them stay my little babies. In fact yesterday Bryan referred to "the two babies" and I thought he was talking about Cole and Bryce (he meant Cole and our friend's baby Jimmy). Bryce isn't my baby anymore! He is almost two!!! So here are a few things that happened these past couple weeks that have forced me to come to grips with the fact that my children are, everyday, getting bigger, smarter, and (let's be honest) cuter!

* Cole is finally growing out of his 0-3 month clothes so I was taking them out of his dresser and putting the 3-6 month clothes in. Well, as I was putting the newborn clothes in the box I started sobbing - like choking and hard-to-breathe sobbing! It was really pathetic but I saw these outfits that were, at one point, so huge on Cole. Some brought back memories of Christmas (like the "Santa's Little Helper" onesie) and some of his first few days, especially the pair of jammies he wore all the time because they were the only ones that fit him. So Bryan came in from working outside to find me bawling on our bedroom floor. I think he hates situations like this because he doesn't know what to think - but when he found out why I was crying he laughed. I think he was relieved to know it wasn't something serious, but it made me so sad to know that Cole is growing up!

* Bryce is out of the crib and into the toddler bed. He and Rix share a room now. This transition has been fun because we can snuggle with him in bed now and he looks so grown up sleeping in a bed! He hasn't fallen out yet, which is nice because we were afraid that he was going to fall out and wake up Rix and they would both come in our room crying and wake up Cole and then we'd be all awake in the middle of the night. But that worst-case scenario hasn't happened yet and they actually sleep later when they sleep in the room together. Bryce is also talking like ca-razy! He puts sentences together and counts to twelve. It blows our minds how much he talks right now. He loves to tell me how Cole is doing - "Mommy! Cole is stinky!" or "Awake" or "Baby happy!" When Cole drools (which he does a lot of) Bryce tells me "Uh-Oh, Cole spilled!". And if you ask him where someone is, they are always working. Like "Where's Daddy?" Bryce will say "Working." Except Missy (my mom's dog) is "Barking" and if you ask Bryce what someone is doing, he says "Name". Somehow we have confused the poor kid and he thinks "name" is an action verb! He loves to run around and follow Rix. They wrestle together and play horsey (with Rix as the horse, of course). He is so fun and makes us laugh all the time by his funny saying and big smile.

One day I was talking to Cole and called him "Bubba" and Bryce finished the name for me. It was so funny! And now whenever we say "Bubba", Bryce will finish the name for us. Refer to the video for the full name. Notice how frustrated he gets as I keep making him say it - he must think I'm so weird!

*Rix is now in a twin-sized bed. It makes him look so little! He is doing really well in preschool and has made a lot of friends. He loves to read books and always asks "What makes this sound: puh-puh?" and I'll pretend I don't know and he will say "P!" He is learning really fast, but only when he wants to learn. I can't push it or he will get frustrated and then give up. Being in preschool has taught him to do art (which he never did before) and he and Bryce will color together or do play-dough together. Rix is also taking a swim class, which is a transition that makes me so proud! He was so afraid of the water on the first day and now, two months later, he puts his face in the water and loves to swim. I feel like a "soccer mom" because we have to get to swimming on time and I cheer for him when he does a good job. He is such a good big brother, always offering his candy to Bryce and giving Cole his pacifier when he is crying and I am too busy to do it. The first thing he does in the morning, before even saying hi to me, is go and talk to Cole and give him kisses. He loves the "International Harvester" song by Craig Morgan (it's on my blog playlist) and whenever it comes on he and Bryce sing it. Bryce only gets the last word of each line, but Rix knows the whole thing. Honestly, I'm tired of the song but they love it so much that we listen to it for them.

I can't believe how big those boys are getting. And cute too!!! I also can't believe that I haven't stayed in better touch. I'm so sorry. Just read today about Kelly's pregnancy, oh my goodness! We need to get together soon, okay?

Okay, so I almost cried when you talked about the whole going through clothes thing. I do that too! How weird, it's like we shared a womb or something. I'm sad that I don't get to see your kids grow up. And Jack and Bryce would NOT get along- that tower he was building in the way cute video would have been knocked down so many times that Bryce would have hated Jack!

I cannot believe how big Bryce is! He looks so much like Rix. So cute to see your big boys playing together. And, I miss you tons! I love your trademark laugh! Cute kids!

I cried when I went through Hayden's clothes when he was growing out of them, I was sad with Roman but I didn't cry, I was too excited for the next line, like "Sweet now he can wear those Gap pants that were so cute on Hayden!" Roman is talking a lot, but Bryce sure puts him to shame, I can't believe he's talking in sentences! And your kids play so well, at least in the video and stuff, I feel like a referee most of the time with them. Can you believe you're the mother of 3 growing boys!?

I can't believe Cole has already growing out of his clothes. All of your boys have changed so much since I last saw them. The bubbachubba movie is our favorite. Kev thought that was the funniest thing he has ever seen. This post made us miss you guys a ton. i think it is time to get together again.
